Stephen Box to stand down as Headteacher

Stephen Box will stand down from his current position as Headteacher of SHFGS at the end of August 2018, having taken the school from “Satisfactory” in 2006 (“requires improvement” in todays’ language) to the position we are now in. It has been an impressive journey of improved examination results, growth in the quality of experience for our students and increased popularity of the school. He will be changing role but he will not be leaving the school completely!

You will all be aware of how much Sir Henry Floyd Grammar School has flourished over the last few years under the leadership of Stephen Box, as demonstrated by our Ofsted inspection in January 2016 where we were judged as Outstanding in all categories.

As a result of our successes we have been approached by the government and the Local Authority as well as some school governing bodies to set up a structure that will enable our excellent practices and those of others to be shared between a number of local schools to help all schools to develop and improve results for their students by working together more closely. Therefore we have established a Multi Academy Trust, called Insignis Academy Trust (IAT), to put ourselves in a position of being able to respond to the requests we have received.

In recent times we have continued to strengthen the capacity of our School Leadership Team and believe we are now in a position to begin to work in exciting, new ways. Stephen will continue to be the Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of the Trust. His extensive experience, skill set and educational knowledge will place the Trust in a strong position to drive school improvement in the local community.

We will miss Stephen at the helm of SHFGS, but through his excellent leadership and development of senior and middle leaders, the school is in a position of strength to manage this change and continue to strive for a world-class education for all of our students.

We are very grateful to Stephen for everything he has done to make our school such an amazing place for young people to attend, and we are delighted he will be continuing to support and drive SHFGS forward in his role as CEO of IAT. He will be working alongside his successor.

The Local Governing Body, in conjunction with Insignis trustees, have already begun the process of recruiting a new Headteacher for SHFGS. We will keep you informed of the progress made over the next few months.
